Wells went unsigned this offseason after posting a 4.58 ERA in 37 1/3 innings for the Padres last season. The Angels are taking a flier on Wells as starting rotation depth with Jered Weaver (elbow) expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, free agent Kip Wells threw in front of Phillies "people" on Tuesday.
Heyman says Wells showed a "good breaking ball [and] changeup." But it's not clear whether the Phillies are going to make a formal offer. Wells, who turns 36 years old in April, posted an ugly 4.58 ERA and 19/20 K/BB ratio in 37 1/3 innings last season for the Padres.

Wells, who will turn 36 in April, had a 4.58 ERA and 19/20 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings with the Padres last season. The Mets expressed interest in him earlier this winter, but he'll almost certainly have to settle for a minor league pact.

Peter Bourjos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment in Arizona, and will rejoin the team when they return to Anaheim on Monday.
Even the most optimistic of time frames have Bourjos returning to the lineup at the end of May or beginning of June. Hamstring injuries can be extremely detrimental to players like Bourjos who rely so heavily on their speed, as they tend to linger and pose a high re-injury risk. J.B. Shuck will continue to see additional time in left field while Bourjos is sidelined.

Jered Weaver (elbow) threw four innings in a simulated game Friday and feels ready for a minor league rehab assignment.
Weaver threw a total of around 80 pitches between the simulated game and his bullpen session. With his extended layoff, he will need 2-3 rehab starts before he's cleared to rejoin the Angels' rotation. He's expected to return in the early part of June.

Madson thinks he's ready to be activated now, but the Angels have decided to slow things down in order to avoid re-injury. The reliever said he respects the team's decision but thinks he can "pitch here today and get people out. That's just how I feel." It sounds like he won't join the Halos' bullpen until sometime next month.

The hope is that one appearance will be enough for him to return from the disabled list Tuesday. Burnett has been sidelined since April 26 with left forearm irritation.

Angels transferred LHP Andrew Taylor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Taylor was diagnosed with a small tear in his labrum last month. While he won't need surgery, it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. The 26-year-old posted a 4.27 ERA and 56/25 K/BB ratio over 59 innings between Double- and Triple-A last year.
