Adam Everett has been hired by the Indians as special assistant to baseball operations.
Everett had reportedly been considering retirement since being released by the Tribe back in June, and it sounds like this seals the deal. The soon-to-be 35-year-old batted only .242/.294/.346 over 11 major league seasons but was considered one of the top defensive shortstops in the game during his prime.

Indians released INF Adam Everett.
Everett was designated for assignment by the Indians earlier this week. The 34-year-old is batting just .217/.277.233 over 67 plate appearances this season. He is reportedly considering retirement.

Everett told MLB.com's Jordan Bastian that he is considering retirement but will first weigh his other options. The 34-year-old infielder batted .217/.277/.233 in 67 plate appearances for the Tribe this season.

Adam Everett scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth as the Indians beat the Red Sox 1-0 on Thursday.
The first batter to face Daniel Bard, Everett walked to begin the bottom of the eighth and then stole second with Orlando Cabrera up at the plate and showing bunt. Orlando Cabrera successfully bunted afterwards, moving Everett along, and Asdrubal Cabrera brought him home with a squeeze down the third-base line. Everett was making his first start and second appearance for the Indians since winning a spot out of spring training.

Lou Marson (shoulder) admitted Monday that there is no timetable for his return to the Indians' active roster.
Marson has begun throwing but is not yet performing any other baseball activities due to lingering soreness in his shoulder and neck. "It's definitely frustrating," the catcher told MLB.com. "I know what it is and kind of what I have to do. Hopefully, I can get on the field soon."

Myers threw 33 pitches last week in his first rehab start and will probably try to top 50 pitches on Wednesday. He'll make at least one more start in the minors after that before being considered for activation. The right-hander is attempting to pitch through a UCL tear.

Indians placed RHP Josh Tomlin on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Bourn. Tomlin is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2013 campaign.

Wood felt some soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow during his first appearance on Saturday, but it was only a minor scare. The 27-year-old right-hander is currently in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery and will likely need a handful of appearances before he's a legitimate consideration for the major league roster.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Robert Whitenack on the 40-man roster. Herrmann had Tommy John surgery in March and will miss the entire 2013 season.
