Athletics placed INF Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 13, with a groin strain.
Inge will be eligible to return from the disabled list on May 28 and should be ready for immediate activation on that date. The veteran third baseman has five home runs and 17 RBI in 11 games since joining the A's. Adam Rosales has been recalled in a corresponding roster move.

Brandon Inge could be placed on the disabled list Thursday if he fails to experience any improvement with his strained groin.
The A's had been hopeful that Inge would return to the lineup Thursday after missing a fourth straight game, but apparently he's not improving as anticipated. It would be the second time this season that a groin ailment has sent Inge to the DL.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin wouldn't rule out Brandon Inge (groin) returning Wednesday but thinks Thursday is a more realistic target.
Inge has missed the last three games with a lesser version of the groin soreness that forced him to the disabled list last month. Josh Donaldson will start in his place at the hot corner Tuesday.

Scott Sizemore underwent successful surgery on his left knee Wednesday morning.
Sizemore was expected to open the season as the A's starting third baseman, but he tore the ACL in his left knee early in camp and has been ruled out for the entire 2012 season. However, he's fully expected to be ready for spring training next year.

Yoenis Cespedes (hand) took some swings with a fungo bat Tuesday and could swing off a tee Wednesday with a regular bat.
Cespedes is now officially performing all baseball-related activities and everything has gone well to this point. He's eligible to return from the disabled list, but don't expect to see him until late May or early June.

Manny Ramirez (wrist) went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk Monday in his return to action with Triple-A Sacramento.
Man-Ram was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a sore left wrist, but it's not a major concern. If all goes according to plan, he'll be added to the Athletics' roster as soon as his 50-game suspension is up on May 30.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) is scheduled to resume throwing later this week and is expected to be ready for activation when first eligible on June 2.
Obviously, we won't know for sure if he'll be ready then until we see how he feels after picking up a ball again. But, the A's seem optimistic and McCarthy himself said when he went on the DL that he wouldn't be out long. Feel free to scoop him up in fantasy leagues if he's been dropped.

Braden had been playing catch often, but the A's have decided he needs to build up more shoulder strength before throwing again. He remains without a timetable for return, but we almost surely won't see him before the All-Star break.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Travis Blackley on the active roster. Devine underwent Tommy John surgery last month and will miss the entire 2012 season.
