Cody Ransom is batting .350/.435/.900 with three homers in his first eight games with the Cubs.

Ransom and Luis Valbuena have formed a surprisingly productive platoon at third base, as the two are hitting a combined .267 (27-for-101) with eight home runs and 17 RBI. The two will continue to share the position while Ian Stewart tries to figure things out at Triple-A. "He’s been around a long time,’’ manager Dale Sveum said of Ransom. ‘‘He’s always hit home runs. He’ll strike out against right-handers, but he’s always hit left-handers. He’s dependable in the field, a no-panic kind of player.’’ May 5 - 9:06 AM

	2	Kyuji Fujikawa D.L. Kyuji Fujikawa underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. The reconstructive elbow procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews and deemed a success. Fujikawa has already been placed on the 60-day disabled list and is unlikely to be ready to pitch for the Cubs again until June of next season. He signed a two-year, $9.5 million free agent contract with Chicago this past winter. Jun 11

	11	Arodys Vizcaino D.L. Arodys Vizcaino has been ruled out for the season after recently undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow to address a calcium buildup. Vizcaino wasn't progressed as hoped in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and now we know why. It's a shame that he won't appear for the Cubs in 2013, but the good news is that his ligaments are fine and he should be ready to go for spring training. Vizcaino will be shut down for six weeks before beginning his rehab. May 28
