The 35-year-old transitioned from an outfielder to a reliever this past spring. The early returns weren't great, but the Twins will hope he eventually figures it out.

Diamondbacks released LHP Jason Lane.
Lane, who previously played with the Astros and Padres as an outfielder, signed with the D-Backs this offseason as a pitcher. However, the 35-year-old was given the boot after posting a 7.59 ERA and 18/6 K/BB ratio in 21 1/3 innings over 15 relief appearances with Triple-A Reno.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Jason Lane to a minor league contract.
Lane has played in the big leagues with the Astros and Padres as an outfielder, but the D-Backs are bringing him to camp as a pitcher. The 34-year-old posted a 4.85 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio over 13 innings in six relief appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas in the Blue Jays' organization this past season. He's a longshot to crack Arizona's roster, but it should be an interesting experiment to monitor.

Marlins signed OF Jason Lane to a minor league contract.
Lane should provide the Marlins some organizational depth in the minor leagues. He split 2008 between the Yankees and Red Sox farm systems and in 2009 batted .253 with an .810 OPS for the Blue Jays’ Triple-A team after failing to make the team in spring training.

Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
It was a very discouraging sign when Mastroianni, who was already progressing slowly in his recovery, was uncomfortable testing his ankle during light sprints on Wednesday. He shouldn't be expected to return to the Twins until after the All-Star break and can safely be dropped in deeper mixed formats.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
