Josh Willingham connected on his seventh home run of the season on Thursday, but it's all the offense the Twins could muster in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Willingham finished the night 1-for-3 with the solo blast off of Henderson Alvarez. With as pitiful as the entire Twins offense has been on the season, it's easy to miss just how impressive Willingham has been in the early going. He's now hitting .313 with seven homers and 18 RBI on the season and has turned himself into one of the better power hitting outfielders in the league.

Josh Willingham doubled and hit a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Angels.
The home run was Willingham's first in 16 games, though the two-hit night was his second straight after he began May in an 0-for-14 funk. Hitting .312/.418/.624 through Minnesota's first 30 games, Willingham is doing what was expected of him and more when the Twins gave him $21 million last December.

Josh Willingham returned to action on Tuesday, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against the Angels.
He had been 0-for-14 in his previous five games. Yet his .303 batting average remains gaudy, as the 33-year-old is bound to settle into the .260-.270 range eventually.

Willingham was held out of Monday's game because of a skin condition near his mouth. He's batting cleanup and starting in left field Tuesday night against the Angels.

Twins placed RHP Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad.
Blackburn battled the injury throughout Wednesday's start against the Tigers and was rocked for six earned runs in just two innings. The Twins need to get him right, which could take around three weeks. Blackburn has an 8.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through seven starts this season. It was originally announced that Doumit was heading to the disabled list, but he's merely day-to-day with a left calf strain.

Updating a previous item, Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday instead of just having a cleanup of the scar tissue in his flexor pronator as originally reported.
It's a significant difference, as Baker would likely have entered spring training healthy if he only had the flexor pronator cleaned out. Now, he'll almost surely be sidelined into the 2013 season. An MRI hadn't showed any damage to Baker's ulnar collateral ligament, but Dr. David Altcheck discovered damage while the righty was opened up and went ahead with the procedure.

Kyle Waldrop (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers Saturday.
Waldrop began the season on the disabled list with a right elbow strain. The Twins haven't said how many rehab outings he'll need, but he should certainly be ready before the end of the month if he doesn't have any setbacks. He's not lock to be added to the major league roster, though.
