Brandon League took his third blown save and third loss after giving up two runs in the 11th Thursday against the Indians.
League took the mound with absolutely no command today, but manager Eric Wedge let him face six batters -- three of whom he walked -- without removing him. League has now walked as many batters in 17 1/3 innings this year (10) as he did in his 61 1/3 innings last season. He's still been pretty good overall, so the Mariners seem certain to stick with him in the closer's role. Today was ugly, though.

Brandon League blew his second save of the season Monday, coughing up the lead in the 11th against the Rays before allowing the winning run in the 12th.
It's a rough showing from League, who has been one of the best fantasy closers to this point in the season. He's now 7-for-9 in save opportunities, and his ERA went from 1.54 to 2.77. We still like him to be a fine fantasy option, as long as he isn't traded to a contender to be a setup man.

Brandon League picked up his seventh save of the 2012 campaign in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Tigers.
League allowed singles to Don Kelly and Ryan Raburn in the bottom of the ninth but managed to pitch his way around those threats. He's now 7-for-8 in save opportunities this season and boasts a 1.69 ERA.

After Felix Hernandez went eight scoreless innings, Brandon League took a blown save and a loss Thursday, giving up two runs to the Indians in the ninth.
League had walked just one over seven scoreless innings to start the season, but he issued two tonight and the Indians made him pay for them with a couple of singles. It was League's first blown save since last Aug. 23, also against Cleveland. In fact, three of his six blown saves since the beginning of 2011 have come versus the Indians.

Miguel Olivo (groin) went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored Wednesday in his latest rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma.
Olivo also caught nine innings. He's 3-for-11 over his first three rehab games and is getting very close to activation. The 33-year-old backstop has been on the disabled list since May 1 with a right groin strain.

Franklin Gutierrez (heel) is taking batting practice and doing light running, but he still needs more rehab work in Arizona before beginning a 20-day rehab assignment.
In other words, he's not close to rejoining the Mariners. Gutierrez began the season on the disabled list with a torn pectoral muscle, but the heel injury is the bigger issue right now. Manager Eric Wedge recently estimated that a return in late June is the "best-case scenario."

George Sherrill is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early May.
He's out for the year and may just decide to call it quits. Sherrill hasn't pitched since the Mariners' Opening Day series in Japan. The veteran southpaw had a 3.00 ERA in 36 innings last year for the Braves and agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Seattle in December. He lasted 1 1/3 innings. The Mariners will go with Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for left-handed relief in the short-term.
