Max Scherzer kept the Mets to three runs over seven innings to earn his 12th win of the season Thursday.
It wasn't vintage Scherzer -- he gave up a pair of homers which, along with the three he allowed in his last start gives him five given up in two starts -- but it was enough to get the win. Scherzer allowed five hits in all while walking two and striking out five. The win improved him to 12-5, best in the National League, with a 2.41 ERA, an NL-best 0.90 WHIP and league-most 182 strikeouts through 134 2/3 innings of work. On track for a Tuesday start, the 33-year-old is a good bet to get the nod for the National League in the upcoming All-Star Game. Jul 12 - 10:10 PM
