Don Kelly drove in all three runs for the Tigers as they fell to the Rangers on Thursday.
Kelly made a rare start in left field filling in for Andy Dirks, and responded with a 2-for-4 effort and his first three RBI of the season. He's not a fantasy play, even in the deepest of leagues, but he still delivered a solid effort in this game.

The Tigers and OF Don Kelly avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $900,000 contract.
Kelly batted .245/.291/.381 with seven home runs and 28 RBI in 113 games last season while earning close to the league minimum. He'll act as a utilityman in 2012.

Don Kelly is playing third base in Tuesday night's ALCS Game 3 against the Rangers.
Austin Jackson is leading off yet again and playing center field. Kelly bats second, Delmon Young bats third, Miguel Cabrera bats fourth, Victor Martinez bats fifth, Alex Avila bats sixth, Jhonny Peralta bats seventh, Ryan Raburn bats eighth and Ramon Santiago will hit ninth.

Don Kelly ripped a solo homer in Thursday's Game 5 ALCS win over the Yankees.
He got things started with the solo blast as the second batter of the game, and Delmon Young followed him up with a homer on the next pitch to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. With Wilson Betemit struggling and Kelly picking up four hits in 11 at-bats against the Yankees, he's likely earned more time at the hot corner in the ALCS.

Victor Martinez (knee surgery) has been off crutches for 10 days.
Martinez had microfracture surgery on his left knee in late January and underwent a procedure in early March to help the healing of his ACL. V-Mart can't afford any setbacks, but he's encouraged about the possibility of returning in September. We should know more about his status when he undergoes an MRI during a check-up in July.

Valverde hasn't pitched since last Tuesday because of lower back tightness. The 34-year-old right-hander has a 5.51 ERA and is just 7-for-9 in save opportunities this season but remains a strong fantasy option at closer and should be made active in all leagues immediately.

Luis Marte (hamstring) tossed three scoreless innings Monday in a rehab appearance at Triple-A Toledo.
Marte walked one and struck out two while allowing just one hit. He needed only 35 total pitches to get through the three solid frames. The right-hander should be ready for activation from the disabled list within the next few days but might just remain stationed in the Toledo 'pen.

Good news. Schlereth is already performing range of motion exercises and should soon be cleared to resume throwing. He's been on the disabled list since late April.

Al Alburquerque (elbow) has begun long-tossing at the Tigers' spring training facility in Florida.
Albuquerque is throwing from 150 feet, and if he continues to be progress should be cleared to throw off a mound before long. The Tigers are hoping to get the hard-throwing reliever back around the All-Star break.
