Yovani Gallardo fired six scoreless innings Saturday in the Brewers' 6-0 defeat of the Reds.
It was Milwaukee's first shutout victory of the season. Gallardo has now been excellent in two straight starts and his performance Saturday against a very good Reds offense served as validation for this sudden turnaround. He struck out five batters, allowed just three hits, and may be valuable again in standard mixed leagues.

Yovani Gallardo finally turned in a dominant outing Monday, throwing eight scoreless innings against the Marlins.
Against the Marlins. Even with Giancarlo Stanton and Logan Morrison back, it's probably the worst lineup in baseball. Still, it gives Gallardo something to build on after he gave up 14 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings in his three previous starts. He lowered his ERA from 5.25 to 4.74 tonight.

Yovani Gallardo gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Phillies, but notched the victory.
Gallardo owes his offense a nice meal, because he was hardly deserving of the victory. He gave up six hits (including a season-high three homers) while walking three. We keep waiting for Gallardo to turn things around, but he hasn't completed seven innings in a start since April 29. Meanwhile, his ERA sits at 5.03 ERA on the year. Fantasy owners will have to hope that something clicks for him when the calendar flips to June.

Yovani Gallardo labored through a loss Sunday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over four innings.
On the plus side, he struck out seven batters, but this was about as inefficient an outing as they come; Gallardo required 94 pitches to record 12 outs. The disappointing ace of Milwaukee's staff takes a 3-5 record and 4.79 ERA into Friday's start against the Phillies.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin said Thursday that Corey Hart (knee) might not be back until after the All-Star break.
Hart doesn't have much confidence yet in the strength of his surgically-repaired right knee and has yet to run the bases at full speed. He's been sorely missed this season, as Brewers first basemen have combined for a .183/.222/.280 batting line and just four home runs.

It's a procedural move, as Gamel required surgery in early March to repair a torn right ACL and is expected to miss the entire 2013 season. The Brewers now have an opening on their 40-man roster.

It's a move made in order to clear 40-man roster space for Francisco Rodriguez. Green is out for the season after undergoing hip surgery last month.

Ryan Braun (thumb) will be shut down from baseball activities for at least the next week.
Braun is dealing with a nerve issue in his right hand, and the Brewers are hopeful that the symptoms will subside with some extra rest. If they don't, he'll just have to play through the ailment. "If it gets better, he'll start swinging again and then take BP," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Maybe when he comes off, it will go away. If not, he'll have to play and fight through it." Logan Schafer will see the bulk of the time in left field while Braun is out.

That's assuming he's cleared by team physician William Raasch Wednesday following a successful 45-pitch bullpen session Tuesday. Estrada is expected to need just one rehab outing, putting him in line to rejoin the rotation next week.

Burgos was originally scheduled to make the start on Monday but felt renewed soreness in his right shoulder. He's been out since May 22 with a shoulder impingement but is on track to return in a couple of weeks.

Chris Narveson (finger) could make another rehab start after being knocked around for five runs -- three earned -- while walking five over 4 2/3 frames his last time out.
The left-hander has yet to pitch five innings during any of his four rehab outings and has allowed 14 runs -- 12 earned -- over his last 11 innings. The Brewers need a starter for the upcoming week, but it appears that it will not be Narveson.
