Mat Latos held down the Braves Tuesday, limiting them to two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings in the 4-3 win.
It's one of his best outings of the season and just the second time all year he's managed to go seven innings. Latos has always been a slow starter and has now lowered his ERA from 5.97 to 4.35 over his last four outings. He'll get the Rockies at home this weekend.

Matt Latos yielded three runs on seven hits over five innings in Thursday's loss to the Mets.
Latos has looked brilliant on some occasions and all-too-human on others. Once again he put too many runners on base, including four of the last five runners he faced before being pulled after 100 pitches. His 4.63 ERA and 1.52 WHIP remain a far cry from the standard set in previous seasons.

Mat Latos pitched well against the Nationals on Saturday, giving up just one run on three hits in five innings.
Latos struggled with his command the majority of the game, walking five and needing 109 pitches to make it through the fifth inning. But he operated well in damage control and lowered his ERA from 4.93 to 4.54. He’ll look to get back in the win column when he battles the Mets in New York on Thursday. The Reds lost Saturday's game against the Nationals 2-1.

Mat Latos finally turned in a dominant outing in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Pirates, allowing just two hits while striking out 11 in six innings of work.
The owner of a 5.73 ERA in 70 2/3 career April innings, perhaps Latos just needed the calendar to flip. The stellar outing lowered his ERA from 5.97 to 4.93, while he's now the owner of a 1.44 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio through 34 2/3 innings. Latos will look to get on a roll against the Nationals at home next weekend.

Rolen was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained left shoulder and has yet to resume swinging a bat. Reds manager Dusty Baker said on Saturday that he's not sure when the 37-year-old third baseman will be ready to return. With his future very much in doubt, Todd Frazier makes for a smart pickup in deeper mixed formats.

Masset hasn't picked up a ball since being shut down from throwing in mid-April when he felt renewed soreness in his shoulder. "We've got our fingers crossed that he doesn't feel anything and that it's healed," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "I know he's champing at the bit."

Bill Bray (groin) remains without a timetable.
Bray made a rehab appearance with Triple-A Louisville last month, but has been strictly working at extended spring training, and recently reported a setback. "We're trying to get him through that," GM Walt Jocketty said. "His mechanics got out of whack because of the [groin] injury. Now he's having problems with his lower back."

Ryan Madson's rehab from Tommy John surgery began Tuesday.
"It’s Day One of rehab," Madson said. "It’s the first day I’ve been out of my brace. It feels good." Madson, of course, will miss all of the 2012 season, but he's hoping to be ready for the start of 2013. He'll be a free agent this winter
