Jesus Montero returned to the Mariners' lineup Saturday.
Montero had missed the previous two games with the DH spot unavailable this weekend. He'll start behind the plate for Jason Vargas and bat clean-up.

Jesus Montero is not in the Mariners' lineup for the second straight day Friday.
The M's don't have the DH available this weekend against the Rockies, so Montero will sit while John Jaso makes the start behind the plate. Montero has just three hits in his last 30 at-bats, so perhaps the rest will do him some good.

Jesus Montero is not in Thursday's lineup.
It's just a routine day off for Montero, who is batting .248/.277/.398 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 35 games this year. John Jaso is catching and Mike Carp is serving as Seattle's DH on Thursday against the Indians.

Jesus Montero homered in his return to Yankee Stadium, but it wasn't enough to deliver the Mariners a victory on Friday.
He finished the night just 1-for-4 with the solo blast off of Hiroki Kuroda in the sixth inning. He's off to a solid start to the season as the Mariners cleanup hitter, hitting .276 with five homers and 17 RBI now. The Mariners clearly look like the early winner in the Michael Pineda deal.

Miguel Olivo (groin) went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored Wednesday in his latest rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma.
Olivo also caught nine innings. He's 3-for-11 over his first three rehab games and is getting very close to activation. The 33-year-old backstop has been on the disabled list since May 1 with a right groin strain.

Franklin Gutierrez (heel) is taking batting practice and doing light running, but he still needs more rehab work in Arizona before beginning a 20-day rehab assignment.
In other words, he's not close to rejoining the Mariners. Gutierrez began the season on the disabled list with a torn pectoral muscle, but the heel injury is the bigger issue right now. Manager Eric Wedge recently estimated that a return in late June is the "best-case scenario."

George Sherrill is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early May.
He's out for the year and may just decide to call it quits. Sherrill hasn't pitched since the Mariners' Opening Day series in Japan. The veteran southpaw had a 3.00 ERA in 36 innings last year for the Braves and agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Seattle in December. He lasted 1 1/3 innings. The Mariners will go with Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for left-handed relief in the short-term.
