Jake McGee has been unscored upon in his last eight appearances, sporting a 10/1 K/BB ratio across 6 1/3 innings over that time.
McGee retired all seven batters he faced in a three-strikeout appearances Thursday, needing only 29 pitches to do so and calling it "by far" his sharpest outing of the season to date. The southpaw now sports a 2.35 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 11/3 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings this season.

Rays recalled LHP Jake McGee from Triple-A Durham.
McGee opened the season in the major leagues, but registered a 5.14 ERA and 2/3 K/BB ratio in seven innings of work and got demoted before the end of April. He's regained his confidence at the Triple-A level and should fit nicely into a mid-relief role.

Rays optioned LHP Jake McGee to Triple-A Durham.
McGee started the season with a share of the Rays' ninth inning role but struggled out of the gate with a 5.14 ERA and a 2/3 K/BB ratio over seven innings. He has a bright future but will be asked to spend a little more time marinating in the minors. Alex Cobb will take his roster spot Sunday and make a spot start against the Angels.

Jake McGee allowed a run on two hits and a walk in an inning of relief during Thursday's loss to the White Sox.
Coming into the season, many thought it would be McGee that would wind up with the most saves in the Tampa bullpen, but he holds a 5.40 ERA and 2.20 WHIP while striking out just two over his first five innings. Meanwhile, Kyle Farnsworth has been nearly flawless at the back end of the bullpen. We still like him over the long haul, but McGee is a long ways away from picking up saves at this point.

Jose Lobaton (shoulder) is likely a week away from being activated from the disabled list.
Lobaton has been on the disabled list since mid-April with right shoulder soreness. The 27-year-old backstop is 2-for-18 (.111) over six rehab games with High-A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery. Jose Molina and Chris Gimenez will continue to split catching duties for now.

Rays transferred C Robinson Chirinos (concussion) to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Brandon Allen on the 40-man roster. Chirinos was concussed by a foul tip late in spring training. He won't be eligible to return until May 26, though it's possible he won't have a spot on the 25-man roster if the Rays end up liking what they see from Chris Gimenez.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Evan Longoria (hamstring) "might be ahead of schedule."
The only other detail Topkin offered is that "an early return is still June." Longo has been pegged for a late June return, but perhaps he'll make it back a little sooner than that. He recently played catch and fielded ground balls on his knees, but the real test will come when he starts running again.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said Desmond Jennings (knee) had a "great day" of activity Tuesday but will "probably not" be ready for activation Sunday.
An earlier report indicated that his activation over the weekend was expected, but apparently he won't quite be ready. It sounds like Jennings is coming along nicely and should be good to go early next week.

Sam Fuld
D.L.
Sam Fuld said the follow-up exam on his surgically-repaired right wrist went well and that he could begin swinging a bat in early June.
Fuld is currently working his way back from April wrist surgery. Barring any setbacks, he could be ready to return at some point in August.

The Rays initially provided a 4-6 week timetable for Niemann, who suffered a fractured right fibula Monday, but he'll have to sit out at least two months now. The team has yet to announce who will replace him in the rotation, but it will either be Alex Cobb or Chris Archer.

Rays transferred RHP Kyle Farnsworth from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Farnsworth is still making his way back from an early-April elbow strain. He's aiming to being throwing soon, but the right-hander won't be eligible to return until June 5. Fernando Rodney has a real opportunity to run away with ninth-inning duties.

Suspended
A judge in Charlotte County, Florida has reduced Matt Bush's bail from $1.015 million to $440,000.
The number is still probably out of Bush's price range, considering the reports that he had only $2,000 left in his bank account when he struck a 72-year-old motorcyclist in March while drunk. The former No. 1 overall pick is facing charges of DUI, hit-and-run and property damage. He's likely done with professional baseball for good.
