Angels signed RHP Ryan Braun to a minor league contract.
The "other" Ryan Braun is coming off a nice year for the White Sox' Triple-A affiliate, posting a 2.20 ERA, 9.6 K/9 rate and 18 saves over 57 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old holds a 6.66 ERA over 50 career major league innings and will be a longshot to win a bullpen spot in spring training.

Royals released RHP Ryan Braun.
Braun underwent Tommy John surgery in April and probably won't be ready for the start of 2009. The Royals could offer him a minor league deal to stick around. He had a 6.64 ERA in 39 1/3 innings for the club in 2007.

Royals recalled RHP Ryan Braun from Triple-A Omaha and placed him on the 60-day disabled list.
Braun is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery in April, but he'll now collect a big league salary while rehabbing thanks to the Royals needing to create space on the 40-man roster.

Royals optioned RHP Ryan Braun to Triple-A Omaha.
Braun made the Royals last spring and spent the majority of the season in the majors, but he pitched just two innings this spring. He needs to throw more strikes if he's going to be a factor on a deeper Royals pitching staff this year.

Peter Bourjos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment in Arizona, and will rejoin the team when they return to Anaheim on Monday.
Even the most optimistic of time frames have Bourjos returning to the lineup at the end of May or beginning of June. Hamstring injuries can be extremely detrimental to players like Bourjos who rely so heavily on their speed, as they tend to linger and pose a high re-injury risk. J.B. Shuck will continue to see additional time in left field while Bourjos is sidelined.

Jered Weaver (elbow) threw four innings in a simulated game Friday and feels ready for a minor league rehab assignment.
Weaver threw a total of around 80 pitches between the simulated game and his bullpen session. With his extended layoff, he will need 2-3 rehab starts before he's cleared to rejoin the Angels' rotation. He's expected to return in the early part of June.

Hanson's been away from the team since early May due to the death of his step-brother. The Angels will use their off day next Monday to skip the No. 5 starter before hopefully getting Hanson back that weekend.

Ryan Madson (elbow) will move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday and will remain there for "several weeks."
Madson thinks he's ready to be activated now, but the Angels have decided to slow things down in order to avoid re-injury. The reliever said he respects the team's decision but thinks he can "pitch here today and get people out. That's just how I feel." It sounds like he won't join the Halos' bullpen until sometime next month.

The hope is that one appearance will be enough for him to return from the disabled list Tuesday. Burnett has been sidelined since April 26 with left forearm irritation.

Kevin Jepsen (triceps) is expected to begin a rehab assignment early next week.
Jepsen has been sidelined since April 12 with a strained right shoulder, but resumed throwing from a mound last weekend and hasn't had any setbacks. He remains on track to return from the DL sometime later this month.

Angels transferred LHP Andrew Taylor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Taylor was diagnosed with a small tear in his labrum last month. While he won't need surgery, it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. The 26-year-old posted a 4.27 ERA and 56/25 K/BB ratio over 59 innings between Double- and Triple-A last year.
