The Marlins are hopeful that prospect third baseman Matt Dominguez will only have to miss a few days after being hit in the face by bad-hop groundball on Tuesday afternoon.
Dominguez was hit just under the left eye, but managed to avoid serious injury. The 22-year-old third baseman should be back to normal within a week or so.

Matt Dominguez suffered a left eye contusion Tuesday after getting hit in the face by a line drive.
The liner came off Danny Worth's bat. Dominguez may need to sit out a few days while the swelling calms, but he shouldn't be sidetracked too much if it's only a bruise.

Marlins prospect third baseman Matt Dominguez will miss Saturday's Rising Stars Game in the Arizona Fall League due to a bruised right thumb.
Dominguez suffered the injury during infield drills Friday, but the good news is that X-rays came back negative and he should return to game action within the next few days. The 22-year-old is still considered the Marlins' third baseman of the future, but remains a work in progress at the plate.

Marlins purchased the contract of 3B Matt Dominguez from Triple-A New Orleans.
Dominguez was considered for the starting third baseman job during spring training, but the Marlins sent him back to the minors after he underwhelmed with the bat. The 22-year-old is still considered the third baseman of the future, but he remains a work in progress offensively, batting .258/.312/.431 with 12 homers and 55 RBI over 356 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. It's not known how much Dominguez will play down the stretch, but he is worth a flier in NL-only leagues.

Marlins placed OF Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 19, with a sprained left thumb.
It's still not clear what the MRI results are, but obviously the injury is bad enough to keep Bonifacio out for at least a couple weeks. Chris Coghlan has been recalled, but Bryan Petersen figures to benefit the most in terms of increased playing time while Bonifacio is out.

Ceda underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday and will miss the entire 2012 campaign.

Suspended
Juan Carlos Oviedo has received a pardon from the U.S. State Department for admitting to falsifying his identity and is expected to secure a work visa soon.
A newspaper in the Dominican Republic reported earlier that Oviedo had already acquired his visa, but that won't happen for another couple of days. The 28-year-old right-hander (formerly named Leo Nunez) will then have to serve an eight-week suspension handed down from Major League Baseball. He's not getting paid any part of his $6 million salary from the Marlins at this moment.
