Athletics avoided arbitration with LHP Jerry Blevins by agreeing to a one-year contract.
The financial terms aren't available. Blevins, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time, has posted a 2.97 ERA over the last three seasons for the A's. He'll be used as a lefty specialist again in 2013.

Jerry Blevins was mighty impressive on Tuesday night, pitching out of a major jam to preserve a one-run victory over the Angels.
The A's entered the ninth inning with a 6-3 lead, but Grant Balfour allowed a pair of runs to score and left runners at first and third with nobody out. Blevins inherited the dicey situation, and immediately got Kendrys Morales to strike out on four pitches. He then got Howie Kendrick to hit into a game-ending double play. It was Blevins' first save of the season and only the second of his career.

Athletics recalled LHP Jerry Blevins from Triple-A Sacramento.
Blevins, 27, has a 3.80 ERA and 20/14 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings with the A's this season. He has bounced back and forth from the majors to the minors several times already, but should stick with the big club for the rest of the year.

Athletics optioned LHP Jerry Blevins to Triple-A Sacramento.
Blevins posted a disappointing 4.12 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 19 2/3 innings for the A's this year. He might be allowed to return to the majors at some point in September.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

An X-ray on Jed Lowrie's right foot came back clean.
Lowrie was injury Tuesday when he was hit by a Yu Darvish pitch. He won't play Wednesday but should be back in the lineup Friday following Thursday's off day.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) is expected to be added to the major league roster when his 20-day rehab window expires on Wednesday.
Nakajima is batting just .250 with a .313 on-base percentage at Triple-A Sacramento, but he's made strides defensively and has also showed he can play second and third base. His role with the big club figures to be limited.

Josh Reddick (wrist) will try taking batting practice on Friday.
If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Reddick discussed last week the possibility of surgery on his right wrist, but he's been able to take dry swings with no issues. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, it seems possible that he could be activated sometime next week.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
