Pedro Strop was slapped with a loss Monday against the Yankees after allowing two runs over two-thirds of an inning.
Called upon to begin the 10th inning, Strop gave up consecutive doubles to Ichiro Suzuki and Vernon Wells before recording a pair of outs. He was asked to intentionally walk Robinson Cano before the O's tabbed Brian Matusz, who allowed an inherited runner to score. Strop's stuff is absolutely lethal, but his post-WBC efforts haven't impressed. The 27-year-old holds a 5.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 21 appearances. He's got closer's stuff, but is nowhere close to being trusted in the ninth inning.

Pedro Strop picked up his third relief win of the season in Sunday's comeback victory over the Athletics.
It has been a memorable eight days for Strop, who has collected two wins and two saves since April 22. This time he got into a little trouble after putting two men on base with one out in the ninth inning, but was able to keep Oakland scoreless before Baltimore posted five runs in the bottom half of the frame to win it.

Pedro Strop notched a save in the absence of Jim Johnson for the second straight night in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Blue Jays.
O's manager Buck Showalter has (wisely) opted to go with Strop over Kevin Gregg in the ninth inning while doctors try to figure out what's sidelining Johnson. He's a solid add if you're in search of cheap saves, but he could return to a setup role as soon as the weekend.

Pedro Strop has moved into the primary setup role for the Orioles.
Strop was claimed off waivers from the Rangers at the beginning of the month and has yet to allow a run in 8 2/3 innings with the O's, sporting an 11/2 K/BB ratio over that time. "I feel comfortable because they are giving me the confidence," Strop said. "They are trusting me, and so that’s why I feel comfortable. If they are trusting in me, I have to trust in myself." With the Orioles having an unsettled ninth inning situation for the future, it's possible the hard-thrower could eventually get a look at closer.

It's been very slow progress for Betemit in his recovery from surgery to repair a PCL tear in his right knee. He still has yet to be cleared to resume baseball activities, and the timetable for his return continues to be pushed back. He's virtually irrelevant for fantasy purposes at this point.

Nolan Reimold (hamstring) is not expected to be ready for activation from the disabled list when first eligible.
Reimold was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 12 with a right hamstring strain. He is eligible to return on May 28 -- next Tuesday -- but his rehab is not that far along. The outfielder should be good to go at some point during the first few weeks of June.

Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) will head to the Orioles' spring training complex Tuesday to begin his rehab.
Chen landed on the 15-day disabled list May 13 with a strained right oblique and can't pick up a baseball for at least another week. But he's allowed to do cardio work while he waits. The right-hander should be ready to rejoin the O's starting rotation in early June.

Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) allowed four runs over four innings Thursday in a rehab start at Triple-A Norfolk.
Wada gave up three hits and issued two walks but he fanned five batters and made it all the way to 78 pitches (45 of which were strikes). He's on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and is aiming to join the Orioles' starting rotation at some point in early-to-mind June. The left-hander signed a two-year, $8.15 million contract with the O's in December 2011 but has not yet thrown a pitch in a major league game.
