Kyle Gibson pitched a great game on Sunday, surrendering two runs over seven innings in an extra-innings win over the Mariners.
Gibson struck out three and walked three in the contest. Both of the Mariner runs off Gibson came in the fourth inning, when Seth Smith hit a solo homer and Logan Morrison managed an RBI grounder. Gibson recovered to make it through seven innings, though he would not factor into the decision. Despite the great start, Gibson's overall numbers are troubling. He boasts a 5/12 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings and a 1.70 WHIP. Predictably, his ERA is close to 5.00. Gibson strikes out so few batters that he absolutely has to show pinpoint control, and that has rarely been the case this season. Until he improves his control, he's not usable in mixed leagues. He'll try to build off of Sunday's start when the White Sox waltz to town next weekend. Apr 26 - 8:04 PM
