Rockies recalled INF D.J. LeMahieu from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
LeMahieu was acquired this offseason from the Cubs in a four-player trade involving third baseman Ian Stewart, but he failed to make the Opening Day roster. He was hitting .315/.354/.398 with a homer and 11 steals at Colorado Springs and will give the Rox some infield depth.

Rockies reassigned INF D.J. LeMahieu and LHP Christian Friedrich to minor league camp.
LeMahieu was acquired this offseason from the Cubs in a four-player trade involving third baseman Ian Stewart. He was expected to get a crack at the Rockies' starting second base gig at the time of the swap, but Colorado later acquired Marco Scutaro from Boston to fill that role. LeMahieu was 3-for-14 with two RBI this spring in the Cactus League.

New acquisition D.J. LeMahieu is expected to compete for the Rockies' second base job in 2012.
A career .317/.353/.399 hitter in the minors, LeMahieu has yet to really find a position, as he's played second and third base, as well as shortstop. His long-term role is likely as a utility player, but the Rockies will give him a shot to earn regular time at second base. He'd have to carry a high average to help fantasy owners, as he doesn't have power or speed.

Rockies acquired INF D.J. LeMahieu and OF Tyler Colvin from the Cubs for 3B Ian Stewart and RHP Casey Weathers.
LeMahieu, a .317 career batter in the minors, made his major league debut in 2011 at the age of 23. He doesn't have much power and is doubtful to become anything close to a star, but the Rockies can use him comfortably as a utility infielder in 2012 and hope that he develops into something greater.

Herrera left Tuesday's game with the injury. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be out. DJ LeMahieu has taken his spot on the roster.

Rockies placed INF Hector Gomez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a groin strain.
Gomez was diagnosed with a strained right groin in early March and wasn't able to get back on track by the end of spring training. He was a longshot to make the Rockies' 25-man roster anyway and will likely be sent to the Triple-A level once he's healthy.

Chris Nelson (wrist) went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored Tuesday in his second minor league rehab game with Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Nelson went 0-for-3 in his first game on Monday. He is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 31 and should get a decent amount of playing time at third base now that Jonathan Herrera (hamstring) is DL-bound.

Chacin is still working on building up the strength in his shoulder and won't throw again until he sufficiently does so. The Rockies don't really consider him to be hurt, but there's something going on that's caused his decreased velocity, and the team hopes he'll get it back after some down time.

Jorge De La Rosa (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Thursday and resume his rehab assignment Sunday for Triple-A Colorado Springs.
De La Rosa's 30-day rehab window was restarted because of a right forearm, but he's ready to get back on the mound. It's unlikely he'll need another full 30 days, assuming he has no setbacks.
