Making his first start since April 7, 2014, Matt Moore allowed four runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings in Thursday's no-decision against the Indians.
Moore had been on the shelf for over a year as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. He held a 2.95 ERA and 24/8 K/BB ratio in 21 1/3 minor league rehab innings before the Rays eased him back into action against the Indians on Thursday. Throwing 53 of his 84 pitches for strikes, he struck out four and walked two in the contest. After putting up zeros on the scoreboard through the first three innings, he allowed a run in the fourth, then three straight RBI singles in the fifth before being relieved of duty. Moore was an All-Star in 2013, but it's reasonable to expect some inconsistency here, as it's been a long time since the southpaw faced major league hitting. He'll take to the road for a potential tough test against the Royals as he tries to work himself back into game-shape. Jul 2 - 3:20 PM
