Padres manager Bud Black said Tyson Ross will rejoin the rotation once his left shoulder is healed.
Ross is obviously healthy enough to pitch, but his left shoulder subluxation leaves him unable to swing a bat, meaning he can only pitch in relief for now. There's no timetable for when he'll be ready to swing again. "We still see him as a starting pitcher," said Black. "But that will be left shoulder related and whether he's physically able to do that. Right now, his strength is improving. In due time, he has to get in a cage."

Padres activated RHP Tyson Ross from the 15-day disabled list.
Ross posted a 1.71 WHIP and 12/10 K/BB ratio over 14 innings before a left shoulder subluxation sent him to the DL. The Padres will use him in relief for now, as Ross is unable to swing a bat. With a couple off days, the club will use four starters over the next week.

Padres placed RHP Tyson Ross on the disabled list with a left shoulder subluxation.
"Subluxation" is a formal way of saying he has been diagnosed with a partial dislocation of his left shoulder. Ross suffered the injury taking a swing during the Padres' game against the Dodgers on Wednesday. It's to his non-throwing shoulder, so it shouldn't affect his pitching when he's able to return.

Yasmani Grandal will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Tucson.
Grandal is still serving his 50-game suspension for a positive PED test, but he is allowed to begin a 10-game minor league assignment. The 24-year-old backstop is eligible to join the Padres on May 28 and may split playing time with Nick Hundley upon his return.

Logan Forsythe (foot) took batting practice on the field Thursday.
It's the first time he's done so since plantar fasciitis in his right foot sent him to the DL prior to the season. Forsythe also took ground balls before Thursday's game. "He's on the field doing baseball activities stuff, so he's on the way back," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He's on the mend." The team hasn't revealed a timetable for Forsythe, but he should be ready sometime next month if all goes well.

Padres manager Bud Black said he'd like Cameron Maybin (wrist) to get around 30 rehab at-bats.
Maybin hit in the cage and on the field before Monday's game and will do the same thing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Assuming it goes well, he'll begin a rehab assignment on Friday. Maybin could return before the end of the month.

Clayton Richard (illness) will make a second rehab start with Triple-A Tucson.
Richard struck out eight over six innings of one-run ball Thursday for Tucson, but the Padres want him to have another tune-up. "He feels good about where he is right now, how his arm feels and how he feels physically in general, from the whole bad virus he contracted," manager Bud Black said. Assuming Richard feels fine in his next outing, he could rejoin the rotation as soon as next weekend.

Cory Luebke (elbow) has had his throwing program stopped for the second time this year in his attempt to return from Tommy John surgery.
Luebke was shut down in early March before resuming sessions of catch on April 1, and he had progressed to throwing off a mound before this latest setback. Obviously none of this bodes well for his mission to return to live major league games by the All-Star break.

Wieland, currently on the 60-day disabled list, is nine months removed from Tommy John surgery and will continued to be moved along slowly. If he can avoid setbacks, Wieland should be game-ready sometime after the All-Star break.

Kelly will undergo Tommy John surgery during the first week of April. Obviously, he won't be making any contribution this season.
