Josh Collmenter is the most likely candidate to start for the Diamondbacks on June 18.
The D'Backs demoted Tyler Skaggs on Monday, but because of an off day Thursday, they won't need a fifth starter until next Tuesday. In addition to Collmenter, Charles Brewer and Randall Delgado will also receive consideration. Collmenter boasts a 3.03 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with a strikeout per inning out of the bullpen this season.

Pitching exclusively out of the bullpen, Josh Collmenter is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 22 innings.
Last year's horrific April that cost him a rotation spot seems like a distant memory. Collmenter finished with a 2.13 ERA in 72 innings (seven starts, 17 relief appearances) over the final five months in 2012 and has carried that success into a new season. Of particular interest is his strikeout and K/BB rate, both improved over last year, which were both improvements over 2010's fifth-place-ROY-voting campaign.

Josh Collmenter surrendered one run in five innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Cubs.
Collmenter pitched well in both of his spot starts down the stretch here. After an awful April cost him his rotation spot, he ended up with a 2.13 ERA in 72 innings (seven starts, 17 relief appearances) over the final five months. While he never figured to duplicate his successful rookie season, he may have some staying power as a middle reliever/spot starter.

Josh Collmenter did nice work in a spot start against the Giants on Tuesday, earning a victory while allowing just one run on two hits over his five frames.
Collmenter struck out four. He got word that he would be starting late in the day after Tyler Skaggs was scratched and performed admirably. The right-hander now owns a 5-3 record, 3.80 ERA and 78/22 K/BB ratio through 85 1/3 innings between the rotation and the bullpen this season.

Aaron Hill (hand) experienced no problems when taking live batting practice on Friday, and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
Hill will remain with Triple-A Reno through Wednesday, and if all goes well could be cleared to return to the Diamondbacks' lineup as early as next weekend. Hill has been limited to just ten games on the season after sustaining the hand injury in early April.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Chavez has been "getting much better" of late. Out since late May, he seems likely to require a brief rehab assignment before returning, which should come later this month.

Ian Kennedy has dropped the appeal of his 10-game suspension and will begin serving it on Monday.
Kennedy doesn't think he deserved 10 games for his role in last week's brawl with the Dodgers, but with the D'Backs having a couple off days over the next week, it makes sense to drop the appeal. He'll be eligible to return on June 29.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
It will be his first since a nagging shoulder injury sent him to the disabled list in late May. McCarthy was cleared to throw from the bump after long-tossing from 105 on Monday with no issues. It's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment, but a return early next month seems likely.

Daniel Hudson has suffered a re-tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Terrible news. Hudson, who had Tommy John surgery last July, suffered the re-tear during an extended spring training start on Tuesday. The 26-year-old right-hander was originally hoping to rejoin the Diamondbacks' rotation around midseason, he's now likely facing another surgery and an additional year of recovery time. Just brutal. If you had him stashed in a DL spot in your fantasy league, feel free to drop him now.

He'll remain with Reno through next Tuesday, as the D'Backs want him to appear in back-to-back games before being activated. Heath Bell has been scored upon in each of his last three outings and seems likely to cede the closer job back to Putz.

Matt Reynolds has been diagnosed with a slight tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.
Reynolds will receive a second opinion, but the plan for now is to shut him down for six weeks before he can hopefully begin a throwing program. Of course, anytime the UCL is compromised, the possibility of Tommy John surgery is there. Either way, it's unfortunate for the D'Backs bullpen, as Reynolds holds a 1.98 ERA and 1.10 WHIP this season.
