Athletics released LHP Jordan Norberto.
The move clears a spot for Daric Barton on the 40-man roster. Norberto is currently sidelined due to a left elbow strain. The 26-year-old had a 2.77 ERA and 46/22 K/BB ratio over 52 innings with the A's last season, so he shouldn't have a problem finding a new home once he's back to full health.

The good news is that the injury will not require surgery. The 26-year-old had a 2.77 ERA and 46/22 K/BB ratio over 52 innings with the A's last season and will function as bullpen depth in the minors once he's back to full health.

Jordan Norberto has been placed on the minor league disabled list because of a left elbow strain.
There is no timetable for his return. Norberto was sent to Triple-A Sacramento before the start of the season and will remain there when he returns to full health.

Athletics optioned LHP Jordan Norberto to Triple-A Sacramento.
This move says more about the fantastic depth that the Athletics have in their bullpen than it does about Norberto. He posted a 2.77 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 46/22 K/BB ratio over 52 innings for the A's in 2012 before his season was ended by shoulder tendinitis. He believes that he's fully recovered, and will surely see time with the big club at some point during the 2013 season.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Lowrie was injury Tuesday when he was hit by a Yu Darvish pitch. He won't play Wednesday but should be back in the lineup Friday following Thursday's off day.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) is expected to be added to the major league roster when his 20-day rehab window expires on Wednesday.
Nakajima is batting just .250 with a .313 on-base percentage at Triple-A Sacramento, but he's made strides defensively and has also showed he can play second and third base. His role with the big club figures to be limited.

Josh Reddick (wrist) will try taking batting practice on Friday.
If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Reddick discussed last week the possibility of surgery on his right wrist, but he's been able to take dry swings with no issues. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, it seems possible that he could be activated sometime next week.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.
