Freddy Galvis ripped a solo homer in Sunday's win over the Mets.
The other big Phillies' hit came from Ryan Howard, who was getting a day off but came up with a two-out, two-RBI pinch-hit double to break the tie in the seventh. It was Galvis' second longball of the month, but he has only six other hits and is sporting a .222 batting mark.

Freddy Galvis went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals.
Galvis got the start in left field with Dominic Brown's back barking at him, and he provided the Phillies' first RBI of the night with a double to the warning track in the sixth. He was unable to get a big hit in the ninth, though, grounding out with runners on second and third to end it. Brown was able to pinch-hit Thursday, so Galvis should go back to a utility role Friday.

Freddy Galvis hit his second spring homer Sunday as the Phillies beat an Orioles split-squad 5-3.
Galvis's two homers have come with 17 strikeouts in 54 at-bats, which doesn't seem like a particularly good sign. The Phillies are planning on carrying the 23-year-old as a utilityman this year. They have the option of sending him down to play regularly and using Yuniesky Betancourt instead, but it doesn't sound like they'll go that route.

Freddy Galvis went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI versus the Astros on Sunday.
The Phillies appear committed to Kevin Frandsen for one utility spot. Galvis is the favorite for the other, but it's worth wondering if the Phillies might not be better off having him play regularly in Triple-A. While Galvis is very strong defensively, it's not as though he's going to offer much off the bench as a pinch-hitter.

Phillies placed C Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a right hamstring strain.
Ruiz was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his hamstring and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. It's a tough blow for the Phillies, who just got Ruiz back from his suspension less than one month ago. Erik Kratz and Humberto Quintero will fill in behind the plate once again.

Phillies placed 2B Chase Utley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a right oblique strain.
General manager Ruben Amaro described the strain as "very mild," so, all things considered, it's pretty good news for the Phils. Amaro is hopeful that Utley will be ready when his two weeks are up, but it's possible he could be out as long as four weeks. Freddy Galvis will function as the primary second baseman while Utley is out. The team will make a corresponding move prior to Friday's game.

Roy Halladay (shoulder) could rejoin the Phillies' rotation in late August if everything progresses on schedule.
Halladay, who had surgery last week to remove a bone spur in his shoulder and repair his torn rotator cuff, reported to extended spring training Monday to begin his rehab. General manager Ruben Amaro said Doc has pretty good range of motion and is "pretty positive." Obviously late August is so far away that it's just a rough timetable, but, given Halladay's famous work ethic, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him pitching later this season.

John Lannan (quad) is scheduled to face hitters next Wednesday.
It will be the first time he's done so since going on the disabled list. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Lannan "is doing very well. He feels good." The left-hander could rejoin the rotation in a few weeks if all goes well.

That means that he won't return to the Phillies' bullpen until Tuesday night, at the earliest. Adams has been sidelined since May 11 with a right back strain.
