Athletics reassigned SS Addison Russell to minor league camp.
The Athletics' top prospect, Russell was never a candidate for the major league roster and still needs more seasoning in the minors. Kyler Newby, catchers Ryan Ortiz and Beau Taylor, and infielders Miles Head and Jefry Marte have also been reassigned.

Jason Blakeney of the Pensacola News Journal reports the A's have agreed to terms with Addison Russell.
Russell, an 18-year-old shortstop, was selected 11th overall in last week's draft. "They offered me a good chunk of change," Russell said of his short and sweet negotiations with the A's. "And my parents are all down for it. They're down with the California weather, so we're ready to go." He had been considering a scholarship offer from the University of Auburn.

Athletics selected high-school SS Addison Russell with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2012 draft.
It's the first time the A's have used their first-round pick on a prep talent since 2001. A stocky 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Russell shed over 20 pounds as a senior in an effort to prove he could stick at shortstop. He's still viewed in some circles as a future third baseman, however. Wherever he plays, he'll boast impressive raw power, but still has a lot of developing to do as a hitter. "Advised" by Scott Boras, it's possible Russell will take his talents to the University of Auburn if he doesn't like the money the A's are offering.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Lowrie hasn't played since he was hit in the right foot by Yu Darvish on Tuesday. X-rays came back negative, but he's still dealing with some soreness. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Josh Reddick (wrist) felt great after taking batting practice on the field before Friday's game, saying that his wrist wasn't an issue at all.
Reddick said he expects to play in rehab games with High-A Stockton on Monday, and with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. If all goes well, he could return to the A's lineup shortly afterwards.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
