Taijuan Walker was knocked around by the Astros on Saturday, surrendering eight runs (seven earned)--including three home runs--in just three innings.
Walker was coming off of one of his best starts of the season after shutting down the Rangers over seven innings on Monday, but he followed it up with one of his worst. The Mariners held an early 3-0 lead before Walker squandered the advantage. The Astros scored two runs on a few light hits in the second inning. The hits were not so light in the third, when a two-run homer by Evan Gattis and a solo Colby Rasmus shot put the Astros up 5-3. Walker allowed two singles to open the fourth before a three-run homer by Jose Altuve ended his night. He now holds a 7.54 ERA and a 2.04 WHIP, plus a 21/12 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings. A slight positive, at least: He's walked only two over his last ten innings, an improvement over his free-pass slinging ways to open the season. Walker will try to put this one behind him when he faces the A's in his next start. May 3 - 12:07 AM
