Sergio Santos (shoulder) threw on flat ground Monday from a distance of 90 feet.
Santos, who is currently working his way back from shoulder inflammation, just began playing catch last week. He'll need to progress to throwing from 120-150 feet before getting back on a mound. Late May or early June is likely the best-case scenario for his return and Casey Janssen will continue to fill in for now.

Sergio Santos (shoulder) played catch Tuesday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list last month.
Santos flew to Florida on Sunday after receiving clearance from Dr. Lewis Yocum to resume throwing. Blue Jays manager John Farrell indicated that the 28-year-old right-hander is likely two weeks away from a possible minor league rehab assignment, so it's fair to expect him back by the end of the month. Francisco Cordero should continue to fill in, though he has blown each of his last three save chances.

Sergio Santos (shoulder) is optimistic he'll be back with the Blue Jays in 2-3 weeks.
It was reported Thursday that Santos would start playing catch over the weekend, but he won't do that until Tuesday. "I'll do some shoulder program stuff and kind of strengthen the muscles around my shoulder and then start playing catch," Santos said. The Blue Jays haven't provided a timetable for their closer, and it sounds like Santos is just guessing on when he'll be back, but, assuming he doesn't have any setbacks, it seems like a reasonable estimation.

Jesse Litsch said precautionary tests have confirmed that the infection in his shoulder is gone.
Good news. Litsch required emergency arthroscopic surgery in early March after developing an infection following an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his right shoulder. The infection somehow got worse from there, which led to the 27-year-old right-hander saying that he may never play again, but he appears to finally be making some progress.

Blue Jays placed RHP Alan Farina on the 60-day disabled list.
He was cleared to make room for the newly-signed Rick VandenHurk on the 40-man roster. Farina underwent Tommy John surgery last July and is unlikely to pitch in a game until later this summer. The 25-year-old could be a useful bullpen piece in the long term.
