Jordany Valdespin had an RBI single Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.

His single in the bottom of the eighth inning broke an 0-for-15 streak. Valdespin is getting a chance to fill in at second base now that Daniel Murphy has taken over for the demoted Ike Davis at first base, but his audition doesn't figure to be a long one if he doesn't produce. Niese allowed six hits and four walks, so it wasn't pretty, but he kept his team in the ballgame.
