Red Sox prospect LHP Brian Johnson allowed one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Pawtucket.
He yielded one hit and one walk while striking out seven in the outing, throwing 71 of 93 pitches for strikes. Johnson, 24, is seemingly next in line among Boston’s pitching prospects to receive a promotion to the big leagues, as he’s posted an excellent 2.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, .214 opponents’ batting average and 76/23 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 80 2/3 innings (14 starts) for Pawtucket. The left-hander doesn’t have overpowering stuff, but he makes up for it with his pitchability, plus command profile and knack for inducing ground balls. Jun 25 - 3:21 PM
