Red Sox prospect Brian Johnson was diagnosed Saturday with multiple orbital bone fractures.
Johnson was struck in the face by a batted ball while pitching in game for Low-A Lowell Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park. He has been cleared of a concussion but will likely be shut down for the remainder of the 2012 season. The 21-year-old left-hander was the No. 31 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft.

The Red Sox are expected to sign first-round LHP Brian Johnson for $1.575 million.
That's the assigned slot for the No. 31 overall pick. A Florida product, Johnson doesn't have a ton of upside but projects as a solid mid- to back-end rotation starter that should move through the system quickly.

Red Sox selected Florida LHP Brian Johnson with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Also a hard-hitting first baseman, Johnson doesn't project as an above-average MLB talent, but instead a polished, middle-of-the-rotation type who won't need much time to develop in the minors. Johnson's fastball is not a plus-pitch, but he locates it extremely well. How quickly he refines his ordinary breaking stuff should determine when he reaches the bigs.

Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
Morales threw three innings in his last outing and will stretch it out to four innings Saturday. The lefty would have been activated by now had the Red Sox wanted him as a reliever, but they're stretching him out as a starter in case he's needed in that role. "Well, he'll likely get to four innings [on Saturday], and if we don't change course with his role, we'd like to get him to a minimum of five before we'd look to do something back here," manager John Farrell said.

Andrew Bailey (biceps) threw a 15-pitch simulated inning on Thursday afternoon at Tropicana Field.
Bailey induced fly ball outs from each of the three batters he faced and then worked on his throws to first base for a few minutes. The right-hander is expected to make a rehab appearance on Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket before rejoining the Red Sox bullpen on Monday. He will take back Boston's ninth-inning gig once he is activated.

Joel Hanrahan was upbeat Friday after he required Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on Thursday.
Hanrahan will be in a cast for ten days, but will start the rehab process shortly thereafter. Either way, he's looking at a 12-to-14 month timetable for his return. Hanrahan, who is a free agent after the season, is a long way away from having any tangible fantasy value.
