Robbie Ray wasn't very good Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings, but he still earned the win against the Dodgers.
Such is the nature of the win statistic, which awarded Ray for getting through five innings and being only slightly less bad than Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda on this day. Ray gave up a leadoff homer to Kike Hernandez among his nine hits allowed, and he also walked two while whiffing six. The win, deserving or otherwise, improved Ray to 2-0 on the year with a 3.42 ERA. He'll have a good shot at remaining undefeated when the D'backs face the Padres on Thursday. Apr 23 - 1:34 AM
