Padres shortstop prospect Jose Rondon went 3-for-4 on Wednesday for High-A Lake Elsinore.
Rondon is hitting .328/.411/.375 with Lake Elsinore, and .327/.371/.410 overall during his two different stops in the California League. He has a line-drive stroke and the tools to be a very good defensive shortstop. Rondon skipped short-season ball and Low-A, and has held his own in High-A, which bodes well for his future. He should open 2015 with Double-A San Antonio and could see time as a utility infielder at the major league level by the end of 2015. His long-term role is muddled by top pick Trea Turner, but the Padres could elect to have a great defensive middle infield with good speed and play them both. One at shortstop and one at second base.
