Cubs catching/outfield prospect Kyle Schwarber will be sent to the instructional league to improve his catching.
Schwarber played left field nearly twice as much as he caught in after being drafted in June, and most view the 6-foot, 235-pounder as an outfielder over the long haul. However, the Cubs aren't giving up on him as a catcher. "I’m going to get the opportunity to catch," Schwarber said. "It’s my job to prove that I can. I got a passion for catching, and I feel like if I can do that, then I can help out in a lot of different situations." It's no question that Schwarber's bat will play anywhere, as he hit .344/.428/.634 with 18 homers over 72 games across three levels. But, obviously having that kind of offense behind the plate is intriguing if the Cubs can make it work. Sep 17 - 10:22 AM
