Carlos Quentin (knee) played six innings in the outfield in an extended spring training game Wednesday.
He made it through the appearance without any issues. Quentin suffered a setback in his rehab almost a couple weeks ago, but he's starting to get back on track. He should be able to resume his rehab assignment soon.

Carlos Quentin (knee) is headed to the Padres' spring training complex in Arizona to resume baseball-related activities.
It's not a good sign when you go from playing in rehab games to performing drills in extended spring training, but at least Quentin will be active again. The outfielder had a cortisone shot in his surgically-repaired right knee last week after experiencing a setback. He's without a timetable.

San Diego Union-Tribune on Twitter
Carlos Quentin received a cortisone shot in his right knee Tuesday.
Quentin has been shut down from his rehab assignment after experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired knee last week. He should be able to resume it in a few days if the shot takes the desired effect, and a return before the end of the month still remains possible.

Sarah Trotto on Twitter
Carlos Quentin (knee) has suffered what was described by Padres manager Bud Black as a "minor setback."
Black said Quentin is still feeling pain in his knee when he gets into his batting stance. It sounds like the outfielder may be a couple weeks away from returning.

Padres transferred INF Logan Forsythe from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Forsythe had surgery in early March to remove the fractured sesamoid bone from his left foot. There's no timetable for the veteran infielder's return to action.

Dan Hayes of the North County Times writes that the Padres have "made it clear the shortstop position is (Everth) Cabrera's to win."
Jason Bartlett (knee) was placed on the DL Thursday, and he'll likely slide into a backup role when he returns or possibly follow Orland Hudson to the unemployment line. "It wasn't working here," general manager Josh Byrnes said. "(The move) wasn't motivated by money, it was motivated by trying someone new to see if we can get better performance. Obviously our record is not what we want. This particular move is to see if these guys can give us a shot in the arm. Jason understands these guys are coming up and there's no guarantee of a job waiting on the other side. That's just the way we're set up now."

An MRI on James Darnell's left shoulder showed that his surgically-repaired labrum was intact.

Padres transferred INF-OF Kyle Blanks from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Cory Luebke is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Wednesday.
An MRI taken earlier this month revealed a partially-torn ligament in Luebke's left elbow. He considered rehabbing the injury and got a few different opinions from specialists but ultimately decided to go under the knife. The 27-year-old will be sidelined through the first few months of the 2013 season. He posted a 2.61 ERA and 23/8 K/BB ratio in 31 innings (five starts) this year.

Tim Stauffer

Tim Stauffer (elbow) confirmed he's experiencing the same soreness he did in late March when he was initially injured.
Stauffer is awaiting the results of an MRI on Friday and remains without a timetable. "It's the same sensation I was feeling earlier when it wasn't recovering," he said. "Obviously, it's very frustrating, just trying to get a handle on what's going on and what needs to be done." Stauffer was making his first start since beginning the year on the disabled list. The Padres claimed Eric Stults off waivers to replace him in the starting rotation.

Joe Wieland (elbow) is aiming to begin a throwing program within the next few days.
Wieland has been on the disabled list (retroactively) since May 7 and should be ready to return shortly after he's eligible. The 22-year-old right-hander had a 4.55 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 24/9 K/BB ratio through his first 27 2/3 innings this season.
