James Loney came off the bench to hit his second homer of the season Monday against the Diamondbacks.
It was one month to the day after his previous homer. Loney is 7-for-13 with five RBI in his last four games. He had a total of eight RBI in his first 36 games.

He'll take a seat against the left-hander Clayton Richard. The newly-recalled Jerry Sands will start in his place at first base and bat fifth.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated that James Loney will be sitting more often against left-handed pitching, but he won't be in a strict platoon.
"I think James can hit lefties," Mattingly said. "But again, like I said before, me thinking he could do it and then doing it are two different things. At this point, James is not really doing it." Loney, who is batting just .212 on the year (.136 against left-handers), figures to yield to Juan Rivera some against southpaws, with new acquisition Bobby Abreu taking Rivera's spot in left field.

James Loney plated both runs in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Nationals.
Loney tagged Gio Gonzalez for a sixth-inning single. It was his only hit of the afternoon, while the RBI were his first in seven games. Hitting just .227/.311/.348 to go along with his typical lack of power, Loney could start drawing more frequent benchings if his bat doesn't heat up and stay hot.

Mark Ellis remains hospitalized following surgery Saturday to relieve pressure in his left leg.
Ellis could wind up missing six weeks of action, depending on the doctors' diagnose of his knee and ankle condition. The second baseman reportedly might have needed his left leg to be amputated if they had waited four or five more hours to perform the surgery.

Uribe was placed on the 15-day disabled list just one week ago with soreness in his left wrist. An MRI taken Sunday showed no structural damage and he's expected to begin full workouts Monday. The veteran infielder should be back in action by late May or early June.

Jerry Hairston Jr. (hamstring) is scheduled to begin playing in extended spring training games Monday.
Hairston will play in games Monday and Tuesday before being re-evaluated for possible activation Wednesday. The veteran infielder has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 7 with a strained left hamstring.

Juan Rivera (hamstring) is scheduled to be reevaluated at some point next week.
The Dodgers previously feared that Rivera could need surgery to repair a hamstring tendon rupture, but they are now optimistic that he'll be ready to return within the next couple of weeks. "He's really progressing well, and is on a best case scenario for us right now," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. Bobby Abreu will continue to get most of playing time in left field for now.

He could soon face hitters and then go out on a rehab assignment shortly after that. Guerrier is hoping to be back by the first of June. "It's going good right now," said Guerrier. "I'm recovering. I'd like to be back by June 1 if I could. I don't feel any sharp pain anymore, and that's what I was having before."

Hawksworth underwent surgery this winter on his elbow to remove a bone spur and scar tissue, then required another procedure a few weeks later to clean up an infection. He's not expected to be ready until mid-May.
