J.R. Smith's father is reportedly hoping his son remains with the Knicks.
Smith's father contends that money will be the motivator, but a source told ESPN New York that Smith was in "financial trouble," hence the reason he took the Knicks offer over other teams when he returned from playing in China. Smith is expected to opt out of his contract in the offseason to pursue a raise.

J.R. Smith has until June 26 to decide on his $2.5 million option for 2012-13.
That's two days before the draft, which gives New York a better idea of what holes they'll still need to fill via the draft or trades. Smith has vacillated about his desire to stay in New York, but he was crystal clear on Thursday, saying, "Without a doubt, hands down, I wouldn't want to play anywhere else ... It's the greatest city in the world. This is my ultimate home."

J.R. Smith is said to be leaning toward opting in and staying with the Knicks next season.
He has a $2.5 player option and sent out an ominous tweet about leaving the Knicks on Wednesday night, but back pedaled the next day. Smith hit just 3-of-15 shots in the final loss of the season and caught the ire of many Knicks fans after the game on Twitter. Had Smith been better in the playoffs (he shot just 31.6 percent), opting out might be a viable option, but as it stands now, chances are he's going to take the $2.5 million and return to the Knicks next season.

After Wednesday's season-ending loss to the Heat, Smith tweeted some comments that made it sound like he's going to opt out. He shot a brutal 31.6 percent in the five-game series and heard it from some Knicks fans. "Damn didn't know this [many] people didn't want me in #NY might just get what you asking for!" Smith tweeted, adding the hashtag "#sorrykidz." Smith can likely get more than $2.5 million on the open market anyway.

Davis, 33, is now facing 12 months of rehab after tearing his ACL, MCL and patella tendon. He's also dealt with back woes, weight problems and declining effectiveness over the last few seasons. Davis' NBA career is in jeopardy.

Jeremy Lin's agent, Roger Montgomery, said "we don't have any assurances" when asked about his client's free agency.
Lin, a restricted free agent, is expected to return to the Knicks. Montgomery is simply posturing here in an attempt to drive up Lin's value on the open market and get an interested team to offer a sizable offer sheet. The Raptors, along with a handful of other teams, will have interest in Lin, but the Knicks are expected to retain him. Lin was a marketing dream and played solid basketball when healthy for New York.

Shumpert's expected recovery time is 6-8 months as he suffered a torn ACL and torn meniscus. It's going to be a challenge for Shumpert to be at full strength by training camp.
