The NBA admitted on Friday that a late foul call cost the Hawks an extra free throw with 3.1 seconds remaining in Game 6.
The Hawks were down two points and inbounding the ball under their own basket, but the Celtics fouled Al Horford before the ball was inbounded. It should have resulted in one free throw and possession as an 'away from the play' foul, but instead the Hawks simply inbounded again. Horford proceeded to miss a free throw with 2.3 seconds remaining, then mistakenly made the second FT instead of intentionally missing with Atlanta out of timeouts. The procession of errors handed Boston a first-round victory.

Al Horford played 46 minutes on his way to 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block in the Hawks' Game 6 loss to the Celtics on Thursday.
Horford missed the deciding free throw late and had seven turnovers, but it's practically impossible to let that color his gutty performance tonight. Josh Smith scored 18 points with nine boards, four assists, two steals, and one block, but uncorked a groaning long jumper that missed short in crunch time and played some uninspired defense late. Jeff Teague hit just 2-of-9 shots for five points with six assists, Marvin Williams went for 16 and eight with four threes but rode the pine a bit too much late, and Joe Johnson hit 7-of-17 shots for 17 points but missed on a patented iso-Joe late, as well.
May 10 - 11:33 PM
Al Horford (pectoral) is starting for the Hawks once again Thursday.
The Hawks are going to roll with the same starting lineup that won them Game 5: Jeff Teague, Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith and Horford. After missing virtually the entire year, Horford impressively blew up for 19 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 41 minutes on Tuesday.

Al Horford, who was supposedly on a minutes count, played 41 of them and hit 8-of-15 shots for 19 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks to lead the Hawks to an 87-86 win over the Celtics in Game 5.
The Hawks turned it over on a horrible inbounds pass with 10 seconds left, and then Rajon Rondo fumbled the ball late, as the Hawks held on for the one-point win. Josh Smith added 13 points, 16 rebounds and six assists on 6-of-16 shooting, Joe Johnson scored 15, Jeff Teague had 16 points and two 3-pointers, and Marvin Williams had 15 points and three 3-pointers. The Hawks five starters were the only ones in double figures, and Game 6 is in Boston on Thursday, with the Celtics leading the series 3-2.
