The Cavaliers on Sunday released guard Eric Snow.
Snow suffered a career-ending injury to his left knee just prior to the start of the 2007-08 NBA season and is working as an analyst on NBA TV.

After the Cavaliers play the Warriors on January 23rd they intend to file paperwork to get Eric Snow declared disabled and thus removed from their roster.
The move will potentially save Clevelane $11 million between saved luxury tax and insurance payments. Because of that impending windfall, the Cavs aren't going to package Snow's expiring contract in any trades.

The Cavaliers are waiting to hear from the league on a disability claim on guard Eric Snow.
Snow is retiring and will not play this season (or again) because of chronic problems with his left knee stemming from an injury last year. If the claim is accepted, the team could save more than $10 million when combining insurance coverage and luxury tax savings.

The Cavaliers are trying to get Eric Snow (left knee) approved for disability retirement, enabling them to clear his $7.3 million off their luxury-tax payroll.
The league could also grant the Cavs an exemption of $3.7 million that could be used toward trades. Snow has been mentioned as a candidate for the Bulls coaching job, and will almost definitely be an assistant coach somewhere next season.

Sidelined
Anderson Varejao (blood clot in lung) has been "working out steadily" since early May and he's expected to be ready for the Cavaliers' training camp.
Varejao also had surgery to repair a split quad muscle in January, but his quad has healed and he no longer requires blood-thinners for the clot. His name will undoubtedly surface in trade rumors once he's fully healthy, but Varejao is under contract for two more seasons and newly re-hired coach Mike Brown loves his defense and energy.
