8/24/2009: Signed a seven-year, $98.25 million contract. The deal contains $38.15 million guaranteed, including a $19.55 million signing bonus, Rivers' 2009-2010 base salaries, and a second-year option bonus of $6 million. $6 million of Rivers' 2011 salary is guaranteed for injury, but not skill or performance. 2011: $8.4 million, 2012: $10.2 million, 2013: $12 million, 2014: $13.8 million, 2015: $15.75 million, 2016: Free Agent

Philip Rivers reiterated that his early-season struggles last year were not injury related.
"I was not hurt, and still don't. I feel great," Rivers said. "It's a compliment. It's not true, but I appreciate that nobody thinks that I would throw 20 picks unless I was hurt, so I guess that's a good thing." Although blame can be shared among the offensive line, Antonio Gates' foot injuries, and bad luck, several analysts believed Rivers sported less velocity and accuracy before November.

An NFL source tells the Miami Herald that Philip Rivers is "lobbying" for the Chargers to keep head coach Norv Turner.
It's hardly surprising that Rivers is going to bat for a coach he's experienced great personal success with, but it would be a miracle if Turner was retained following yet another disappointing season in San Diego. If he is, it sounds like Turner would have his quarterback to thank.

Philip Rivers completed 19-of-26 passes for 310 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception as the Chargers routed the Raiders in Week 17.
Rivers' most disappointing season to date ends with 27 touchdown passes and a career-high 20 interceptions. Rivers swears he was 100 percent, but there's no doubt that he "pushed" the football more often than usual, failing to use his legs to power into throws. Vincent Jackson is a free agent, and the Chargers' coaching staff is in for a major overhaul. Regardless, we'll like Rivers' odds of bouncing back in 2012 fantasy leagues.

Philip Rivers completed 28-of-53 passes for 299 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in San Diego's Week 16 loss to the Lions.
Rivers simply couldn't get into a groove as the Lions roared to a 24-0 halftime lead, failing to match throws with Matthew Stafford as the Chargers generated only 76 yards in the passing game. He finally got into a rhythm in the second half, but it was too little, too late as the Bolts never got closer than 14 points. Both of his picks, which bring him to a career-worst 19 on the season, came in garbage time. Rivers should be able to end the year on a high note in Week 17 against an Oakland defense allowing an average of 247.5 passing yards.
