Former Jets and Panthers NT Kris Jenkins has retired from football.
"Time for the torch to be passed to the younger players," said Jenkins in a Facebook statement. "The mind is always willing to play but my body deserves the rest." The Redskins were rumored to be interested in signing Jenkins along with his brother Cullen, so this may throw a bit of a wrench into their free agency plans. Jenkins, who turns 32 in a couple of weeks, spent most of the last two seasons on injured reserve with twin ACL tears. He made four Pro Bowls in his career, including All-Pro berths in 2002 and 2003. Jenkins should be a prime candidate for the Panthers' Ring of Honor when he's eligible.

Free agent NT Kris Jenkins is now indicating that he wants to sign with a team that has a grass playing surface to prolong his career.
"[FieldTurf], it ain't my friend," said Jenkins after a second ACL surgery on his left knee. Jenkins had been open to returning to the Jets, but his new stance essentially rules out the entire AFC East. Keep an eye on the Redskins, who not only need a nose tackle but also boast a grass field and love broken down veterans.

The Redskins have reportedly shown interest in free agent NT Kris Jenkins.
This hardly a surprise. As a broken down 30-year-old, Jenkins is right up owner Daniel Snyder's alley. The Redskins have been looking for a nose tackle ever since Albert Haynesworth balked at the transition early last offseason. Jenkins has already received feelers from several teams, but he's believed to be hoping for a return to the Jets.

The Jets reportedly plan to offer recently released NT Kris Jenkins a one-year deal to return to the team at a reduced salary.
Per New York Metro, Jenkins was originally due a grand total of $6.4 million for 2011. If he finds little interest on the free agent market while recovering from a twice-torn ACL, he can return to the Jets for an incentive-laden deal.

"I'm feeling real well," Cumberland said. "I'm out there doing everything else everybody is doing." Cumberland will have to be fully healthy to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
