Chiefs GM Scott Pioli gave Matt Cassel a ringing endorsement during a recent radio interview with WHB in Kansas City.
Pioli went so far as to compare Cassel to Len Dawson, who is "without a doubt the greatest quarterback in the history of this franchise." Said Pioli, "I think that we have a really good quarterback. ... I think as he gets more opportunities, Matt is gonna continue to show people that he’s a good NFL quarterback." The Chiefs' offseason actions speak louder than Pioli's words. They appear to be gearing up to lead the NFL in rushing attempts.

Sports Radio Interviews
Both Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel tepidly endorsed QB Matt Cassel on Monday.
"We like Matt Cassel and we think Matt Cassel is a good quarterback," Pioli said. Crennel then weighed in with, "Matt has proven he can get a team to the playoffs. Now it’s up to us to get him to do it again." The Chiefs have shied away from strong endorsements of Cassel all offseason, though only career backup Brady Quinn was added in free agency. Unless the Chiefs decide to select Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill with the No. 11 pick — which SI's Peter King says they won't do — it will be Cassel's job to lose for one more season.

Kansas City Star
The Kansas City Star believes the Chiefs "haven't seemed sold" on Matt Cassel based on their offseason actions.
Coach Romeo Crennel has pointed to Cassel's lack of "consistency" as a concern, and the Star suggests Kansas City as a possible destination for Ryan Tannehill if he gets by the Browns and Dolphins in the top ten. In Cassel's last 11 starts, including the 2010 playoffs, he's completed only 180-of-320 passes (56.2 percent) for 1,898 yards (5.93 YPA) with ten touchdown passes and 16 turnovers.

Kansas City Star
Coach Romeo Crennel confirmed that Matt Cassel would remain the Chiefs starting quarterback in 2012.
Newly signed Brady Quinn will get a long look, but he's not going to be on equal footing with Cassel entering training camp. Since Cassel has settled in as more of a "bridge" than an answer, the Chiefs could find themselves in the first-round mix for Ryan Tannehill next month.

Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry were each held out of the beginning of Chiefs OTAs on Monday.
All three players are in the final stages of their recoveries from torn ACLs. Each is expected to be at or extremely close to 100 percent for the beginning of camp. Charles recently estimated that he's "80 percent," and said he felt he can "do the same thing my teammates do." Kansas City will likely hold its dynamic trio out of next month's minicamp.

Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki (ACL surgery) expects to be at full strength for the opening of training camp in late July.
Moeaki has been running and lifting weights, but he's still unsure about his participation level in offseason practices beginning next month. Moeaki will be more than 10 months removed from surgery by the time camp opens, so his Week 1 status should in no way be in jeopardy.
