At his introductory presser Wednesday, new Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey called Marcedes Lewis "perhaps the best blocking tight end in the NFL."
Mularkey has some history using tight ends as big-time receiving threats (e.g. Tony Gonzalez), but it's important to remember that the new coach's background is primarily run-heavy. Lewis will likely be used as a traditional, in-line tight end as opposed to a catch-first mismatch. He'll be a TE2 again in 2012.

Marcedes Lewis caught three passes for 33 yards on four targets versus the Colts in Week 17.
Exhibit A in the case against the idea that Blaine Gabbert's surrounding talent let him down, Lewis went from 10 touchdowns in 2010 to bupkis this season. He also lost 17 receptions and 240 yards from last year's totals. Entering the second season of a five-year, $35 million contract, Lewis won't be worthy of draft consideration with Gabbert under center next summer.

Marcedes Lewis caught one pass for 12 yards in the Jaguars' Week 16 loss to the Titans.
Lewis didn't play a full complement of snaps, likely due to his hamstring injury. He saw just three targets, but did get a high one in the end zone that came close to a completion. Lewis has just 36 catches for 427 yards and no touchdowns on the season.

Jaguars declared Marcedes Lewis (hamstring) active for Sunday's game against the Titans.
Lewis is going to gut it out, but he's clearly at less than 100 percent. Fantasy owners can certainly do better. The Jags will be without RT Guy Whimper, leaving rookie Cameron Bradfield to make his second start. The rest of their inactives: QB Dan LeFevour, RB Deji Karim, WR Cecil Shorts, DE Matt Roth, CB Robert McClain and DB Dwight Lowery. Akwasi Owusu-Ansah is getting his first career start at safety.

Jaguars WR Taylor Price required surgery and had a pin inserted into the stress fracture in his left foot.
He's on crutches at OTAs. Price's injury is going to put him well behind Cecil Shorts, Chastin West, and even Brian Robiskie when training camp kicks off.
