7/30/2010: Signed a six-year, $41.7 million contract. The deal contains $18.8 million guaranteed, including a $2 million signing bonus and Penn's base salaries in years one through three. Another $5.5 million is available through first-year incentives, though they are "unlikely to be earned." Bucs LT Donald Penn (calf) has been activated from camp/PUP.
Penn missed the first three weeks of camp with a calf strain suffered during July workouts in Los Angeles. He notified the Bucs beforehand and they were understanding. Penn hasn't missed a start since the 2007 season. Pro Football Focus graded Penn as a top-ten left tackle in 2011, grading him especially effectively as a run blocker. He's a good fit for run-minded Greg Schiano.

Bucs LT Donald Penn will miss "several weeks" of training camp with a calf strain.
Penn got hurt working out in Los Angeles and notified the club before he reported. "Not sure exactly how long that will be (or) keep him from participating," coach Greg Schiano said. "... Maybe a couple weeks and we'll play it by ear." As long as Penn is healthy for a preseason game or two, the Bucs should be fine. They have the potential to field one of the NFL's top offensive lines.

Buccaneers re-signed LT Donald Penn to a six-year, $43 million contract.
It may seem like a smart investment for the Bucs to lock up an ascending tackle, but this is quite a commitment for a player coming off a disappointing season. Still, Penn will be an asset up front if he can keep his weight in check. Josh Freeman dynasty owners should be pleased.

Bucs agreed to terms with LT Donald Penn on a multi-year contract.
Financials and length haven't been disclosed. The Bucs really caved here, but it's not like they had an alternative with only converted basketball player Demar Dotson behind Penn on the depth chart. Though Penn didn't grade out as one of the NFL's better tackles last year, the athletic 27-year-old allowed just five sacks and has big upside. He'll need to cut down on the penalties after committing 11 last season to rank eighth in the league.
