7/20/2008: Signed a five-year, $48 million contract. The deal contains $22.385 million guaranteed, including a first-year roster bonus of $2.605 million. Another $12 million is available through incentives. Long voided year six by playing in 35% of St. Louis' defensive snaps as a rookie. He is eligible for a onetime $4.01 million "likely to be earned" escalator based on performance. 2012: $10.31 million, 2013: Free Agent

Final-year escalators from his rookie contract shot Rams LE Chris Long's 2012 base salary from $2.56 million to $10.31 million.
As TurfShowTimes.com has reported, Long's 2012 cap figure is a whopping $18.1 million. The Rams could clear quite a bit of cap space if they signed Long to an extension. Long, who turns 27 later this month, has increased his sack total in each of his four NFL seasons. He set a career high with 13 in 2011.

Rams DE Chris Long (questionable, ankle) is a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Niners.
Long leads the team with 10.0 sacks and would be replaced by Eugene Sims, but Long has said that he expects to play. He will attack the right side of the Niners' offensive line, which has struggled mightily without RG Adam Snyder (hamstring). Snyder is probable to play, but has some risk of an in-game aggravation.

Beat writer Jim Thomas believes that Chris Long's move to left end helped spark the 2010 breakout.
Long, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft, struggled badly as a rookie. But after Leonard Little retired, Long shifted to left end and went off for 8 1/2 sacks, 16 quarterback hits and 21 quarterback pressures in 2010. Long is now entrenched as the playmaking strong-side end for the Rams and has nice IDP upside.

Long racked up a career-high nine sacks, 21 quarterback hits and 16 quarterback pressures. As the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 draft, he should be merely scratching the surface. There will be even more IDP upside next season, as Long has room to take another step forward.

Suspended
NFL suspended Rams rookie WR Austin Pettis four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Barring a successful appeal, the Rams' third-round pick will be suspended for the final two games of this season and the first two of 2012. St. Louis' starting slot receiver since Greg Salas went down Week 9, Pettis has averaged just 2.6 catches for 27.6 yards in six games. St. Louis doesn't have an obvious candidate to man the slot in Weeks 16 and 17, but it's possible KR Nick Miller could get a look. With both Danny Amendola and Salas expected to be 100 percent healthy for 2012 training camp, there's little reason to hold onto Pettis in dynasty leagues.

Hoomanawanui suffered the injury in mid-November. Assuming he takes the normal recovery path, he should be getting close to 100 percent just as training camp opens.
