New OC Greg Olson suggested that Marcel Reece could serve as the third-down back next season.
Olson plans to highlight and maximize Darren McFadden's strengths, but he might not see third downs as one of those assets. "It's nice...to have somebody who is built like [Reece] is built and is also intelligent enough to be that third-down back who understands the blitz packages that other teams are doing and to have tremendous hands coming out of the backfield," Olson said. McFadden caught 42 balls in just 12 games last year, a rate that could take a slight hit if Reece vultures third-down work.

Marcel Reece did not record a carry or catch in the Raiders' Week 17 loss to the Chargers.
Reece rose to fantasy glory during the four games that Darren McFadden missed, compiling 261 rushing yards and 195 receiving yards during that span as a feature back. But once McFadden and Mike Goodson returned, the Raiders sent Reece back to a strict H-back role. His real value lies somewhere between the two jobs, but there will be no clear path to playing time as long as McFadden is healthy.

Raiders FB Marcel Reece caught four passes for 18 yards in the team's Week 16 loss to Carolina.
Captain Checkdown Matt Leinart replaced Carson Palmer (ribs) in the first quarter and finished out the game, translating to five targets for Oakland's lead blocker. Reece has been a non-factor in fantasy football since Darren McFadden returned. He's a full-time fullback again.

Marcel Reece rushed for 10 yards on four carries and caught just one pass for five yards in Thursday night's Week 14 loss to Denver.
Reece started the game at fullback with Darren McFadden's return to the lineup and saw scant work in the loss. He was targeted just one time in the passing game. With the news that McFadden suffered a setback near the end of the game, Reece could be in line for a bigger role in Week 15. McFadden will have 10 days to try and heal up, but even if he misses, Reece shouldn't be counted on to handle the load in the backfield.

Raiders WR Jacoby Ford (Lisfranc surgery) says his foot is 100 percent healed.
Ford suffered Lisfranc injuries in each of the past two seasons, but finally appears to be 100 percent. The explosive receiver has a career 17.0 YPR average, and anticipates being used on returns this season in addition to being one of the team's top pass catchers. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, it will be important for Ford to show he can remain healthy.

New Raiders KR Josh Cribbs (meniscus surgery) says he'll be ready "when it’s time to play football."
Cribbs called Jets GM John Idzik's observation that his knee "(wasn't) quite there yet" a "negotiation tactic" before admitting he might not be ready to practice for over a month. Regardless, Cribbs should be ready well in advance of Week 1, and is slotted in as the Raiders' primary return man.
