Steelers re-signed restricted free agent LG Doug Legursky to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.
Legursky is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. The 26-year-old former undrafted free agent played center at Marshall, but made six of his ten 2011 starts at guard. Pro Football Focus graded him poorly across the board.

Steelers LG Doug Legursky is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery on Friday.
Legursky originally injured his left shoulder in late September versus the Colts and aggravated it several times throughout the season. His recovery timetable is not yet known. Legursky will be back in Pittsburgh as a restricted free agent, though he may have to fight to keep his starting job.

Coach Mike Tomlin gives Doug Legursky (shoulder) a "strong chance" to return to the starting left guard job for Sunday's game at Denver.
It's great news for the Steelers' offense, which has averaged 25 points per game in four games with the starting offensive line intact compared to 18.8 in the other 12 games.

Legursky went down while filling in for Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) last week. Pouncey is expected back in practice on Wednesday. Trai Essex will start at left guard.

Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Tuesday the Steelers expect Rashard Mendenhall (torn ACL) to play in 2012, but conceded he may begin the year on the PUP list.
In reality, Mendenhall is a near certainty to begin the year on the PUP list after tearing his ACL in Week 17 last season. Tomlin and GM Kevin Colbert are both now on the record as expecting their running back to play this season, but it's far from a slam dunk. Mendenhall is off the radar in redraft leagues.

Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer (broken foot) has begun running and cutting.
Dwyer expects to be on the field for OTAs, though his participation level remains up in the air. Dwyer does still have soreness in the foot, but he insists it's nothing serious. If Rashard Mendenhall (ACL surgery) isn't ready to start the season, Dwyer could emerge as Isaac Redman's top backup.

Steelers RB Baron Batch (ACL surgery) will not practice with rookies and first-year players at minicamp on Friday.
Now nine months removed from surgery, Batch is eligible to practice but is apparently not ready to do so. It's possible the 2011 seventh-rounder suffered a recent setback, as he indicated in late March that he was cleared for all offseason workouts.

Suspended
NFL suspended TE Weslye Saunders four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.
Saunders' resume was a red flag-filled mess coming out of South Carolina last year, and was ultimately the reason he went undrafted. He's now in trouble again. An oft-used blocker after making the Steelers out of training camp, Saunders played about 15 snaps a game and held his own in pass protection. The 23-year-old only caught four passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.
