Comcast SportsNet New England's Tom Curran believes Danny Woodhead is "entrenched" as the Patriots' third-down back heading to OTAs.
Joseph Addai will be his primary competition, and the Pats may turn toward 2011 second-round pick Shane Vereen when they want more explosiveness on pass plays called for a running back. Woodhead exceeded 10 offensive touches in just one game last season -- Week 1. He'll remain a lightly used back in 2012.

Danny Woodhead rushed for 18 yards on seven carries and caught four passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the Giants.
Woodhead was surprisingly a big part of the Super Bowl game plan, as the Patriots apparently believed he could pose a mismatch against the Giants' linebackers. It didn't quite pan out that way. Woodhead is a third-string caliber NFL running back, but he has a role in New England because of his versatility. Look for more upside with your 2012 fantasy draft picks.

Danny Woodhead led the Patriots' backfield in snaps with 25 in the AFC Championship Game.
Woodhead had seven touches for 25 yards while BenJarvus Green-Ellis got 15 touches and picked up 68 yards. Of Green-Ellis' 24 snaps, 16 came in the second half as the Patriots' closer. Woodhead saw just six second-half snaps. Touches in the Super Bowl will depend on game flow, but the team's trust clearly lies with the Law Firm right now.

Woodhead rushed one time for five yards and added two catches for 10 yards in the Week 17 win over the Bills.
Woodhead added a two-point conversion on a run. With Stevan Ridley taking over as the feature back over the last month, Woodhead has found himself without a real role. He has a total of seven touches over the last two weeks. Woodhead's 2011 campaign finishes with 508 yards, a far cry from the 926 total yards that put him on the PPR radar in 2010.

Rob Gronkowski (ankle surgery) has ditched his walking boot.
Now walking without a limp, Gronkowski has been doing core work at the Patriots offseason program. While he may need a couple of weeks to be ready for football activities, Gronk should be back to pre-injury form long before training camp.
