Coach Chan Gailey echoed GM Buddy Nix's sentiments that C.J. Spiller can be a workhorse back in the future.
"He could be an every down back. I don't see any reason he couldn't carry 20- 25 if he needed to," Gailey said. "But he's a valuable, versatile player. He can play wideout. We're fortunate to have two very good backs. I'm going to try to make sure we keep them fresh and wear 'em out at the same time." Spiller isn't going to ascend to the No. 1 role with Fred Jackson returning, likely with an extension in tow.

Bills GM Buddy Nix said Monday that he believes C.J. Spiller can be a true workhorse and every-down running back.
"Everyone's been surprised, I guess, about C.J. except us," said Nix. "We always knew what we had. ... I'm one of the few who thinks C.J. can run inside and be a workhorse kind of back. I think he can run inside the tackles. He's stronger than you think." Spiller made an outstanding case for a significantly increased 2012 role with a 5.24 YPC average and career-high 146 touches in 2011.

Buffalo News
C.J. Spiller rushed 13 times for 60 yards and added four catches for 40 yards with a touchdown in the Week 17 loss to the Patriots.
Spiller's difference-making ability in the passing game and as a runner in space shined once again. After Fred Jackson went down in Week 11, Spiller acted as the feature back in six straight games. During that span, he averaged 74.3 yards rushing, 31.1 yards receiving, scored five touchdowns and averaged 5.18 yards per carry. The problem is the Bills have hinted that they don't see Spiller as a true workhorse and Jackson is under contract through 2012. Still, he's earned a big piece of a timeshare going forward.
Jan 1 - 5:20 PM
C.J. Spiller rushed 16 times for 111 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 27 yards in the Bills' Week 16 win over the Broncos.
Spiller was the player of the game on Buffalo's side, busting off carries of 38 and 18 yards and also catching a 16-yard pass. His early scoring run came out of a spread formation at the Broncos' four-yard line. Spiller is at his best in space, and we suspect he'd be quite a bit more effective if the Bills continued to give him the rock in spread-out looks. He'll have another opportunity to shine against New England's porous defense in Week 17.

Stevie Johnson will undergo groin surgery "over the next couple of days" to repair the injury that plagued him throughout 2011.
He has three months before the start of training camp, which should be plenty of time. Johnson's agent characterized the operation as "extremely minor," and assured that his client would "be at [the Bills'] facility for all activities." Johnson played through the injury all last year. He still caught 76 passes for 1,004 yards and seven touchdowns, setting a career high with a 13.2 yards-per-reception average and finishing as the No. 21 fantasy receiver.

Out of FB
Bills waived QB Aaron Corp and S Ian Wild.
Buffalo appears poised to take three quarterbacks to camp: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Vince Young, and Tyler Thigpen. Though Corp was somewhat heralded as a former five-star prep recruit, he didn't show well in Bills rookie minicamp.

He'll be placed on injured reserve. Caussin, a second-year undrafted free agent out of D-IAA James Madison, finished with five catches for 41 yards in six appearances. He won't be on the 53-man roster to open next season.
