7/28/2010: Signed a five-year, $10 million contract. The deal contains $7.825 million guaranteed, including a $1.5 million signing bonus and a $3.38 million second-year option bonus. Another $1.54 million is available through a "likely to be earned" onetime escalator clause, and a fifth-year incentive can boost his 2014 salary by $3.2 million. McCourty is eligible for $50,000 annual workout bonuses in years two through through five. 2012: $540,000, 2013: $650,000, 2014: $920,000, 2015: Free Agent

Patriots LCB Devin McCourty is still rehabbing the right shoulder injury that plagued him down the stretch in 2011.
The injury kept McCourty out of Weeks 11 and 12, but he returned to start the Pats' final seven games, including the playoffs. "It's doing better," he promised. "It's getting stronger, progressing." No surgery was disclosed, but McCourty clearly returned to play through pain. He projects as New England's starting left corner in 2012 after dabbling at safety late last year.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss suspects Devin McCourty will be moved back to cornerback full-time in 2012.
Reiss believes McCourty's late-season move was more about the lack of adequate safety options as opposed to a statement on his optimal position. Assuming McCourty stays at corner and Ras-I Dowling (hip) returns to play effectively, free safety will be a more pressing need this offseason.

Patriots CB Devin McCourty doesn't know whether he'll be used at cornerback or safety in 2012.
McCourty was routinely burned this season as he struggled with press-man coverage. The Patriots played primarily zone in 2010. His struggles became so pronounced he was used at free safety in Weeks 16 and 17, where he notched his only two interceptions. Where McCourty is used in 2012 could depend on the health of 2011 second-round pick Ras-I Dowling.

Patriots CB Devin McCourty started at free safety versus the Bills in Week 17.
McCourty spent the game patrolling center field while the corners played man coverage. The Boston Herald suggests McCourty "showed more than any safety not named Patrick Chung had shown all season," though it may have been just a one-game experiment as a "bandage."

Rob Gronkowski (ankle surgery) has ditched his walking boot.
Now walking without a limp, Gronkowski has been doing core work at the Patriots offseason program. While he may need a couple of weeks to be ready for football activities, Gronk should be back to pre-injury form long before training camp.
