Christian Ponder concedes he didn't feel comfortable going deep into his progressions as a rookie due to Minnesota's poor pass protection.
He should feel a lot more comfortable with Matt Kalil on his blind side. "It is huge," Ponder confirmed. "... A lot of times I wasn't comfortable getting to my third, fourth reads, checking the ball down. Instead of just checking it down when a guy is wide open, I'd just run." The running led to late-season injuries. Ponder isn't going to enter the season as more than a low-end QB2, but we like the Kalil addition for his long-term outlook.

Christian Ponder is "fully healed" from the hip pointer that slowed him in December and knocked him out in Week 17.
Ponder will be 100 percent for OTAs. Labeled a major injury risk coming out of college, Ponder's health will remain a question mark as he looks to unequivocally establish himself as the Vikings' quarterback of the future.

Christian Ponder led all NFL quarterbacks in red-zone completion percentage in 2011.
Ponder's overall mark of 54.3 percent bested only Tim Tebow, Blaine Gabbert, and Sam Bradford, but his red-zone work was more promising. Ponder completed 21-of-27 passes (77.8 percent) with an 8:1 TD-to-INT ratio in scoring position. In Senior Bowl interviews, GM Rick Spielman pointed to Ponder's red-zone stats as a reason for long-term hope. He'll have to cut down on his sacks (30 in 10 starts) and turnovers to stave off Joe Webb throughout the 2012 season.

The promotion of Rick Spielman to GM is expected to bode well for Christian Ponder's chances of lasting as the Vikings' franchise quarterback.
Per ESPN 1500's Tom Pelissero, Ponder and OC Bill Musgrave are "Spielman's guys." Late in the season, coach Leslie Frazier suggested Joe Webb did enough to push Ponder for the starting job in 2012. That may happen to some extent, but Ponder won't have to worry about Minnesota acquiring legitimate competition otherwise. They'll focus elsewhere in free agency and the draft.

Adrian Peterson (ACL, MCL, meniscus surgery) believes he's "50-50" to be participate in training camp.
"I feel like I will be able to get out there and you call a run play or whatever, I'll be able to go through practice. That's how I feel. That's my mindset," said Peterson. "But I'm going to follow the protocol. Whatever the Vikings and their staff want me to do, then I'm gonna do that; but I'm not going to hinder myself. I'm going to let those guys know how I feel."

Percy Harvin's minor shoulder surgery has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, April 24.
The procedure will end up being delayed two weeks due to a family emergency, but Harvin is still expected to be ready for OTAs that begin May 29. The estimated recovery period after Harvin gets bone spurs cleaned out is three weeks.

According to the National Football Post, one NFL team thinks Vikings WR Jerome Simpson would be making $5 million a year if not for his fall arrest.
He ended up accepting a one-year, $2 million prove-it deal. $5 million is optimistic for Simpson, but he's reportedly not perceived as a "bad kid" despite being arrested for having 2.5 pounds of marijuana mailed to his house in September. Some teams do think highly of Simpson's ability, so a strong 2012 season could earn him a big pay raise next offseason.
