ESPN's Pat Yasinskas projects Falcons 2011 fifth-round pick Jacquizz Rodgers as the breakout player in the NFC South this season.
Yasinskas sensed "genuine excitement" in coach Mike Smith's tone during a recent discussion about Rodgers. While Rodgers is undoubtedly headed for a bigger role with Michael Turner in decline, we have many reservations about recommending him as a more than a late-round fantasy pick. At 5-foot-6, 196, Rodgers will never be more than a role player. And he lacks both the dynamic playmaking ability and situation of a Maurice Jones-Drew or Darren Sproles.

The Falcons are expected to increase Jacquizz Rodgers' role next season, "particularly in the screen game."
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution floats the idea of Michael Turner as a trade candidate for a mid-round pick, which is a pipe dream at this point. The AJC also calls the failure to integrate Rodgers into the offense one of Mike Mularkey's "failings" in 2011. Rodgers and Turner will likely form a tandem attack behind a revamped, more athletic offensive line next season.

Falcons rookie RB Jacquizz Rodgers caught four passes for 18 yards in the team's Wild Card round loss to the Giants.
He didn't get a carry despite Jason Snelling's broken jaw and Michael Turner's struggles. Rodgers, a 2011 fifth-round pick out of Oregon State, is almost certainly headed for a bigger 2012 role after a 78-touch rookie year. While the pint-sized Rodgers does not project as a long-term feature back, he can be part of the excuse for the Falcons to limit Turner's workload.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed eight times for 24 yards with a touchdown and added one catch for five yards in the Week 17 blowout of the Bucs.
Rodgers is certainly fast enough to serve as the third-down back. However, the Falcons were hesitant to use their fifth-round pick very much this year as he compiled just 57 carries and 21 catches in 16 games. Rodgers will be a gadget player and change-of-pace option for the Falcons in the playoffs. His long-term ceiling is as a mini-Darren Sproles.
